90 Meat Outlet Date Code Policy

According to USDA estimates, about 30% of the food supply is lost or wasted at the retail level, mostly attributed to consumers unnecessarily discarded wholesome food. In an effort to reduce food waste and help consumers save money, you may find some products for sale that are past printed dates on the packaging. One way we are able to pass along huge savings to consumers is by purchasing overstock Fresh Items and quickly freezing them while still Fresh. Freezing allows the shelf life to be extended for a much longer period of time, without compromising the safety of the product. This is no different than purchasing a fresh bag of chicken realizing you will not use it before it goes bad and freezing it in your home freezer so that it doesn’t go to waste. Once frozen, as long as the product is kept frozen until you are ready to use it, it will continue to stay wholesome. We understand this may be confusing; however, we stand behind the quality of all products that are sold. We will happily refund any purchases made if you are not satisfied. To better understand the dates printed on the Food packages, please see below from the USDA

  • "Best if Used By/Before" date indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date..  All items are checked for quality prior to being offered for sale.  If the product was previously fresh, it was frozen prior to the date printed. Products checked on an ongoing basis to ensure quality.

  • "Sell-By" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale for inventory management. It is not a safety date. Any item that was previously fresh, was frozen prior to its sell by date, and checked for quality. If the item is still fresh, it has been checked for quality and is still being offered for sale as it is still wholesome. Products checked on an ongoing basis to ensure quality.

  • "Use-By" date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality.  Any item that was previously fresh, was frozen prior to its sell by date, and checked for quality.  If the item is still fresh, it has been checked for quality and is still being offered for sale as it is still wholesome.  Products checked on an ongoing basis to ensure quality.

  • "Freeze-By" date indicates when a product should be frozen to maintain peak quality. It is not a purchase or safety date- Any product found at 90 Meat with a Freeze by date, has been frozen prior to the date printed, and checked for quality.  Products checked on an ongoing basis to ensure quality.
